# Cheatsheet

> How to start, the habits that get good results, and the tasks worth trying first.

## Getting started

**1. Install the add-in**

Pick one of the three ways on the [install page](https://docs.make-pretty.com/get-started/install.md).

**2. Sign in**

Use the email your PowerPoint runs on.

**3. Open Pretty**

Click **pretty** on the **Home** ribbon. The task pane opens on the right.

**4. Send a first prompt**

Attach some notes with **+** in the composer and try:

```text theme={null}
Turn the attached notes into one slide. Use a layout from
our slide pool and keep the numbers exactly as written.
```

**5. Make it yours**

Open the menu, then **Settings → Preferences** for language, appearance and compatibility.
[All preferences](https://docs.make-pretty.com/help/preferences.md).

## Best practices

| Do | Don't |
| - | - |
| **Select targeted slides or shapes**, then say the exact change: "Shorten these bullets to one line each; keep the formatting." | Leave the target or result open: "Fix this." |
| **Work in multiple chats in parallel.** You can start multiple chats on different slides in parallel for maximum efficiency. | Wait for the task to finish before starting a separate new task. |
| **Batch related fixes** in one message: "Match the figures to the attached spreadsheet and update the title and captions." | Send one message per small tweak. |
| **Start from an approved layout**: pick one under **Layouts** in the menu, or ask Pretty to reuse one. | Give Pretty content without any layout guidance. |
| **Give content and sources upfront**: text, figures, units, dates, excerpts. Say "no web research" when you don't need it. | Make Pretty guess, or search for facts you already have. |
| **Give concrete feedback**: "Keep the layout; cut the title to two lines and remove the icons." | “Try again.” / “Make it better.” |
| **Start new chats for unrelated tasks** to avoid clogging up the context. | Pile unrelated tasks into one long chat. |
| **Match the model to the task**: a lighter one in the model picker for quick edits, a higher one for dense slides built from a source. | Max out every task, or stick with a setting that keeps failing. |

## Common tasks

### Build a slide from your material

Attach notes, images, PDFs or spreadsheets with **+** in the composer, or drag them onto the pane.
Then ask for the whole task.

```text theme={null}
Turn these notes and this image into a one-slide client
update. Use the figures as written and a layout from our
slide pool. No web research.
```

A `.pptx` is not read as a file. To reuse a deck, upload it as a slide pool (next task).

### Reuse a slide from a slide pool

Your team's approved slides live under **Layouts** in the menu. Hover a slide and click
**Add to chat**, or just ask. Pretty searches the pool for you.

```text theme={null}
Turn my Q3 update into a slide. Use a layout from the
slide pool.
```

Have a deck of your own worth reusing? Open the menu, then **Layouts**, and upload it. Reuse its
slides as references in chat.

### Turn a screenshot into editable shapes

Attach a screenshot, a whiteboard photo or a sketch. Pretty rebuilds it as native shapes on your
template, not as a pasted picture. Crop tight to the part you need.

```text theme={null}
Rebuild this exactly as a slide: same four quadrants, same
labels, same left-to-right order. Use our template's colours
and fonts, not the ones in the screenshot.
```

### Output too boring? Get creative

Ask for mockups. Compare the directions, pick one, then remix it.

```text theme={null}
This slide feels flat. Give me some creative mockups for it.
```

```text theme={null}
Go with the second direction, but keep our colours and
the original headline.
```

### Add icons, logos and maps

Open the menu, pick **Icons**, **Logos** or **Maps**, and click a result to insert it. Or name what
you need in your message.

```text theme={null}
Give each of the four pillars a matching icon, and put the
Siemens, SAP and Allianz logos in a row along the bottom.
```

Photos are the exception: Pretty does not search them. Insert one from **Photos** in the menu,
select it, and ask Pretty to build around it.

### Reuse a prompt as a skill

Typing the same brief again and again? Save it under **Skills** in the menu and run it with `/`. Or type
`/write-a-skill` and Pretty drafts one by asking how you work.

```text theme={null}
/weekly-status for the Q3 numbers in the attached file
```
