# Brand fonts

> Upload your corporate typefaces so Pretty renders and measures text in the right face for everyone in the workspace.

Open the settings drawer and go to **Fonts**. The section states the deal plainly:

> Uploaded fonts are available to everyone in the workspace. .ttf, .otf, or .ttc, up to 10 MB
> each.

The section is visible to Owners and Admins. Members use the fonts you upload without seeing
the manager.

## How fonts affect layout

Pretty renders and measures text with the fonts it has. The face decides how wide a line runs,
how many lines a paragraph takes, and therefore whether a headline fits its box or pushes into
the chart below it.

If your brand face is not uploaded, Pretty falls back to a default face. The deck still opens,
but the measurements it was built against were the wrong ones, so text reflows. Uploading the
family once fixes it for everyone in the workspace, for every deck.

## Uploading

    A confirmation reads *"Added 4 fonts."* and the uploaded families appear in the
    list, grouped by family name with their faces underneath.

Two things get rejected outright: *"Use a .ttf, .otf, or .ttc font file."* for any other format
(including `.woff` and `.woff2`), and *"Each font must be smaller than 10 MB."* for oversized
files.

  Upload the **whole family**, not just the regular weight. A slide that sets a headline in Bold
  and body in Regular needs both faces present, or the missing one falls back on its own and the
  slide ends up mixing two typefaces. One file per weight and style: Regular, Italic, Medium,
  Bold, Bold Italic, and anything else your template calls for.

## When a font is missing

You will notice a missing face the same way you notice it in PowerPoint: text that should be
your brand sans comes out in something generic, and lines that fitted now wrap.

The font installed on your laptop is not the font Pretty has. PowerPoint reads your local
install; Pretty reads what has been uploaded to the workspace. A deck can therefore look correct
on your screen and still be built against fallback metrics.

In every case the fix is to upload the family here. If the family genuinely is not available to
your workspace, pick a face you do have and set it in your template, so at least everyone
reflows the same way.

## Removing a font

Removing a family takes every face in it with it. It asks first, *Remove "Söhne"?*, and warns:

  Decks that use this font fall back to a default face on their next load and may reflow. This
  can't be undone.

Existing decks are re-measured rather than repaired. Remove a face only when you are retiring it
from the brand, not to tidy the list.

One removal is refused: a `.ttc` collection file that also carries another family. Pretty will
not delete the file out from under the family you are keeping.

## Practical guidance

* Upload the family your **template masters** actually reference, not the family your brand book
  wishes they referenced. Pretty inherits the master.
* Upload before you build. A deck assembled against fallback metrics does not re-lay itself out
  when the real font shows up later.
* Keep the list short. Every extra family is one more thing that can be picked by accident.
* Licensing is on you. Only upload faces your organization is licensed to embed and distribute
  to its own people.
